She awoke on the morning of the first day of her new life.
Carmella was a beautiful girl of tender age. She was an only child and so, grew up quietly, playing with dolls by herself. She imagined voices, personalities and background stories for each of her dolls. She would play for hours upon hours in her small room on the plush pink carpet. Her favorite storyline was Madamoiselle Anabel’s.
Madamoiselle Anabel was an orphan. She grew up looking for her parents, whom she never found. Instead, what Mdme. Anabel found was love. Prince Roland, who was in actuality a veritable prince from Carmella’s hometown, found Mdme. Anabel crying upon a rock one morning on his daily ride through the fields. He felt so terrible for the young lady that he stopped, knelt over and asked her what was wrong. As the young lady looked up, she wiped away the tears welled in her eyes and she caught sight of the prince before her. What a sight! As they gazed into each other’s eyes, they knew instantly that they had found the love of their lives. And as the fairy tale goes, Madamoiselle Anabel and Prince Roland were married and so they lived happily ever after.
Carmella loved that story. She imagined it every day and never changed a thing. She wished and prayed and hoped that one day Anabel’s story would be her own.
And so it did.
One day, Carmella went for a ride with her parents in the car. The road was bumpy and her father wasn’t paying attention to the road. Carmella was in the backseat and she had a terrible feeling in the pit of her stomach; she didn’t know what to do, but she knew she was in trouble. Her father swerved and swayed and swerved some more, but there was no avoiding his destiny. Within seconds, Carmella found herself looking upon a disastrous accident scene. There it was: both of her parents dead from the impact of the collision.
Carmella had gotten what she asked for; she was now the lonely orphan that Madamoiselle Anabel was.
Carmella shot out of bed that morning with tears welled up in her little sleepy eyes. It had all been a horrible dream. I believe those are called nightmares... Sparkly nightmares.
